v0.4.0

Latest2026-09-29

Backdrop, Pins & OCR — a freer PicXure

New

  • Backdrop — wrap the shot in a solid or gradient background with padding, rounded corners and a soft shadow, one click and export-ready (⌘⇧B — Pro)
  • Pins — float a screenshot as an always-on-top thumbnail on your desktop, keeping a reference in view while you work (⌘⇧P — Pro)
  • Built-in OCR — recognize text in any image and copy it straight out, right on the canvas (⌘⇧O — free, unlimited)

Pricing

  • Every download now starts with a 14-day full-feature trial, replacing the old quota model — after it ends, capture, annotate, redact, OCR, copy and save stay free forever
  • Mosaic redaction is free forever, unlimited
  • Saving and exporting are free forever, unlimited — the 3-save limit is gone

v0.3.0

2026-09-28

Configurable keyboard shortcuts

New

  • Make PicXure yours — 16 actions are now remappable (the three capture shortcuts, nine tools, paste and copy, resize, and save as), recorded straight from the settings panel
  • Conflict checks while recording — a duplicate binding in the same context is flagged in red and not saved, while a key macOS already owns is flagged in yellow and still saves
  • Restore a single shortcut or every shortcut to defaults, with shortcut labels shown consistently across menus, tooltips, and settings

v0.2.7.1

2026-09-28

Crop readouts in physical pixels

Fixes

  • Crop width and height readouts and inputs now use physical pixels, matching the resize panel and screenshot size labels — on a 2× display the crop panel reports true pixel dimensions

v0.2.7

2026-09-28

Spotlight & native selection

New

  • Spotlight — dim everything around a region to pull the eye to one detail (shortcut 9, free). Choose a rectangle, rounded rectangle, or circle, and fine-tune how dark the surround gets
  • Screenshot selection rebuilt natively — ⌘⇧7 now takes a frozen-screen snapshot and lets you drag-select on each display, with no external process and a physical-pixel size readout
  • Repeat your last selection in one action, and a new screenshot color picker with a loupe magnifier copies HEX or toggles between formats

Fixes

  • Scrolling capture fixes — the pointer is no longer captured while recording, the Done button stops swallowing clicks, and the selection crosshair behaves correctly

v0.2.6

2026-09-27

Save formats & delayed capture

New

  • Choose the format right in the save panel — a format dropdown plus a JPEG quality slider, and your last choice is remembered
  • New export formats: TIFF, HEIC, and PDF join PNG and JPEG (formats your Mac can't encode are hidden; HEIC saves with a fallback hint on unsupported machines)
  • Delayed screenshots — set none/3/5/10 seconds globally, with a click-through countdown HUD that stays out of the shot and can be cancelled or replaced anytime

v0.2.5.4

2026-09-26

Tool popovers & crop sizing

New

  • Annotation tool popovers reworked — editing in a popover keeps the annotation's selection handles alive, with selection state in sync throughout
  • Crop selection size can now be typed in numerically for exact widths and heights

Fixes

  • Two resizing defects fixed — a redraw fallback no longer intercepts updates, and the panel size readout is now accurate

v0.2.5.3

2026-09-26

Open With fix

Fixes

  • Images now open correctly via Finder's "Open With" when PicXure isn't running yet — cold-launch handling is fixed

v0.2.5.2

2026-09-25

Crop overlay fix

Fixes

  • The crop selection box and dimming mask no longer hide beneath annotations — the crop UI now stays on top while you crop

v0.2.5.1

2026-09-25

Annotation fixes

Improvements

  • Timestamped default filenames for screenshots, pastes, and dropped images — like "PicXure 2026-09-25 at 20.53.19"

Fixes

  • Fixed annotation tools failing after taking a screenshot — drawing and selecting work reliably again
  • Selected annotations can be dragged as a whole again, not just by their handles
  • Text annotations no longer appear larger after undoing a crop or a resize
  • The ⌘⇧7 selection overlay now stays on top of the editor window
  • Fixed a blank editor window appearing when reopening from a capture or the Dock

v0.2.5

2026-09-25

Scrolling screenshots

New

  • Scrolling screenshots (⌘⇧9): pick an area and PicXure scrolls and stitches it into one long image automatically
  • Window capture (⌘⇧8): hover to highlight any window, click to shoot — crisp Retina output with native window shadows
  • New settings for capture: open the editor after shooting, and include the mouse pointer
  • Trackpad gestures on the canvas: pinch to zoom and two-finger pan, with smart anchored zoom from 1% to 1600%

Fixes

  • Opening images from Finder or by drag-and-drop is now more reliable
  • The menu bar icon no longer disappears while taking a screenshot

v0.2.4

2026-09-23

Crops that stay put

Fixes

  • Fixed annotations drifting out of place after a crop — they now stay pinned exactly where you put them
  • Stale annotations no longer linger once a crop is confirmed
  • Keyboard shortcuts now respond reliably across the app — after the window is closed, from the numpad Enter, with non-Latin input layouts, and ⌘⇧S everywhere
  • While typing text, destructive shortcuts like ⌘Z, ⌘X, and ⌘⌫ no longer trigger app actions by accident
  • Fixed garbled arrow-key hints in the right-click menu

v0.2.3

2026-09-23

Auto-update fix

Fixes

  • Auto-update now installs correctly — updates no longer fail to complete on sandboxed installs

v0.2.2

2026-09-23

One window

Fixes

  • Fixed duplicate windows: after closing with ⌘W, clicking the Dock icon now reopens the same window instead of stacking a second one

v0.2.1

2026-09-23

Stays up to date

Auto-update

  • In-app auto-updates: PicXure now downloads and installs new versions by itself
  • New Auto-Update section in Settings with a Check for Updates button, localized in all supported languages

Fixes

  • Fixed screenshot capture sometimes failing to open the editing window
  • PicXure now comes to the front right after a screenshot is taken
  • Fixed leaking notification observers behind keyboard shortcuts

Performance

  • Saving and exporting moved to the background — the window stays responsive
  • Images now decode asynchronously, so large files open faster
  • Mosaic redaction renders from a bitmap cache instead of redrawing every frame

Under the hood

  • Release builds enable Hardened Runtime and pass notarization smoothly
  • Removed roughly 500 lines of dead code and other internal cleanups

v0.2.0

2026-09-20

The fast edit

Quick edit workflow

  • Paste from the clipboard with ⌘V and copy finished images back with ⇧⌘C
  • Number keys 1–7 switch annotation tools; Esc returns to selection
  • Quick save remembers your last folder and auto-names files, with a confirmation toast
  • ⌘ + scroll zooms precisely, anchored at the pointer

Annotation & editing

  • Seven tool families with style variants: line, arrow, rectangle, text, freehand, highlighter, numbered steps
  • Mosaic redaction and unlimited saving (Pro)
  • Unified editing: select, move, reshape, restyle — backed by a 10-step undo stack
  • Two-stage crop, 90° rotation, 10%–200% zoom, and a resize panel

Pro & licensing

  • One-time Pro unlock via Creem checkout — $14.99 launch price
  • License keys delivered by email; 3 devices per license
  • Offline validation grace of 7 days
